We are so happy to have you and your dancer with us!
Gonzales Dance Academy is more than a place to learn dance. We are a community built around Folklórico, Mexican culture, tradition, discipline, confidence, and family.
Our goal is to help every dancer learn, grow, and discover what they are capable of—both on and off the dance floor.
This handbook is here to help families understand what it means to be part of GDA and how we can work together to give every dancer the best experience possible.
At GDA, dancers learn much more than choreography.
Through their training, dancers develop:
Every dancer has their own journey. Our Pathway gives dancers the opportunity to continue developing their skills and take on new challenges as they grow.
There is always another step to take, another dance to learn, and another goal to reach.
Dancers are expected to arrive on time, prepared, and ready to participate.
A successful class starts with:
Good energy • Good attitude • Good effort
Dancers should listen to their instructors, follow directions, participate fully, and give their best effort during class.
Mistakes are part of learning. We encourage dancers to keep trying, ask questions, and never be afraid to challenge themselves.
Folklórico is about community.
Every dancer has an important role, and what one dancer does can affect the entire group. We expect dancers to encourage one another, work together, and treat everyone with kindness and respect.
Bullying, disrespectful behavior, harassment, intimidation, or behavior that negatively affects the learning environment will not be accepted.
We dance together. We grow together. We represent GDA together.
Parents and families are an important part of a dancer's success.
We encourage parents to support their dancers by helping them arrive prepared, encouraging them to practice, celebrating their progress, and staying informed about academy activities.
And yes—parents are welcome to join the fun!
During designated exercises and activities, parents may be invited to step onto the dance floor and participate alongside their dancer.
Sometimes the best way to understand what your child loves about Folklórico is to dance it with them!
Gonzales Dance Academy is a performance-based academy.
Throughout the year, dancers may have opportunities to participate in productions, community performances, cultural events, parades, and other academy activities.
Performances are an important part of a dancer's growth because they teach preparation, responsibility, confidence, teamwork, and how to perform in front of an audience.
When a dancer commits to a performance, we ask families to make every effort to attend all required rehearsals and performances.
The stage is where all the hard work comes together.
Consistency matters.
Regular attendance helps dancers keep up with choreography, formations, technique, partners, and group rehearsals.
If a dancer must miss class, rehearsal, or a performance, families should communicate with the academy as soon as possible. (559) 616-0258.
Repeated absences or missed rehearsals may affect a dancer's participation in certain performances or choreography.
We understand that life happens. Our goal is simply to communicate, stay committed, and keep moving forward.
Dancers should arrive ready for class with the appropriate dancewear, shoes, hair, water, and any other items requested by the academy.
Being prepared allows us to spend our time doing what we came to do:
DANCE!
Please label personal belongings whenever possible. GDA is not responsible for lost or misplaced personal items.
Good communication helps everything run smoothly.
Families should regularly check academy communications for important information regarding:

Gonzales Dance Academy is committed to providing a safe, respectful, and positive environment for our dancers.
Parents and guardians are responsible for transportation and supervision before and after class.
GDA provides dance instruction and supervision during scheduled academy activities; it is not a childcare service.
Please make sure dancers are picked up promptly after class or rehearsals.
Some dancers will move quickly. Others will need more time.
We celebrate both.
Placement, choreography, performance opportunities, featured roles, and other responsibilities are based on a dancer's development, readiness, effort, technique, attitude, and the needs of the group.
Our focus is not on comparing one dancer to another.
Our focus is helping each dancer become better than they were yesterday.
Choosing Gonzales Dance Academy means becoming part of something bigger than a weekly dance class.
It means learning about our culture, carrying on traditions, making memories, building friendships, and discovering the confidence that comes from working hard and accomplishing something together.
