Performance-Based Academy
Gonzales Dance Academy is a performance-based Folklórico training program dedicated to preserving Mexican culture, tradition, discipline, teamwork, and artistic excellence through dance.
Enrollment is a commitment to structured training, rehearsals, choreography, and live performance participation. Gonzales Dance Academy is not a recreational drop-in dance program.
Our academy offers three training levels based on age and readiness:
Our academy operates on two semesters:
Fall Semester: August – December
Spring Semester: January – May
Throughout the season, dancers train in Folklórico technique, choreography, formations, partner work, teamwork, and stage performance.
Our annual academy production takes place each May, with additional parade participation opportunities throughout the season when scheduled.
As dancers progress through academy levels, instruction becomes more structured and expectations increase.
Folklórico training requires focus, discipline, teamwork, listening, quick response to direction, and accountability.
Mr. Gonzales maintains high standards to prepare dancers for performance-based training and may use firm verbal instruction, immediate correction, and direct coaching to maintain class structure, safety, and productivity.
Parents and dancers should understand that Gonzales Dance Academy is a disciplined learning environment designed to help dancers grow artistically, personally, and as members of a team.
Parents and adult dancers are responsible for staying informed by reviewing all academy emails, newsletters, and text message updates.
This includes important information regarding:
Failure to review communication, ask questions, or seek clarification directly with Mr. Gonzales does not excuse missed deadlines, tardiness, missed rehearsals, or failure to follow academy expectations.
Parents are also responsible for ensuring their dancer arrives on time, prepared, appropriately dressed, and ready to participate in a positive and respectful manner.
As a performance-based training academy, Gonzales Dance Academy maintains high expectations for focus, discipline, teamwork, listening, and respectful behavior during instruction.
Family support plays an important role in a dancer’s success. Preparing children to arrive with a positive attitude, ready to listen, follow direction, and show respect toward instructors, assistants, fellow dancers, and elders helps create a stronger learning environment for everyone.
Without that partnership between home and academy, it becomes more difficult for dancers to fully learn, grow, appreciate the team environment, and succeed within the structure of the program.
Because Gonzales Dance Academy is a performance-based training program, attendance, punctuality, and commitment are essential.
Enrollment includes participation in:
Because dancers are assigned choreography, formations, and dance partners that directly impact other dancers, reliability, teamwork, and commitment are expected from every participating family.
Late arrival, repeated absences, missed rehearsals, or failure to meet performance expectations may result in choreography changes, partner reassignment, removal from rehearsal, or removal from performance participation.
Gonzales Dance Academy is built on teamwork, discipline, respect, cultural pride, and supporting one another.
All dancers, parents, adult dancers, and families are expected to contribute to a positive and respectful academy environment.
Bullying, harassment, intimidation, gossip, verbal abuse, disruptive behavior, aggressive conduct, or behavior that creates conflict within the academy will not be tolerated.
No one at Gonzales Dance Academy is above another. Every dancer is here to learn, grow, be challenged, and support their fellow dancers as a team.
Respect is expected both in person and in all academy-related communication, including social media.
